Dear vistor,

Karibu.

Let me invite you in the first place to this blog. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Charles Lwanga Catholic church. The title of our parish is a bit long but we never use it in its fullness. I like it because it brings to the minds of many the past and the present of the parish.

Few years back it was an outstation (a chapel ) which was served by another parish. At this time it was known as Saint Charles Lwanga church. At present, it is served by a Religious Order: the Carmelites. They carry their mother everywhere with them and for this reason they added her patronage to the Parish.

Our parish is situated at Nkoroi, a small township located between Ongata Rongai and Kiserian, 30 Km north eastern of Nairobi. Many people will know our parish by the name of this township. They will just call it Nkoroi Catholic Church.

Fr. Soni Abraham O.Carm. was the founder and first rector of this parish who worked tirelessly in bringing up the church building. He worked there until 20th July 2008. Many parishioners saw Fr. Soni as an angel send by God to Nkoroi. He was a real missionary who just wanted to give all his knowledge and strength to the people of Nkoroi. May God keep pouring his graces upon him.

Our parish has one small outstation which is just 3km far. This is St. Bhakita Catholic church. It is within a locality called Merisho. St. Bhakita was under Ngong parish and it was passed to our parish after our establishment. Both Nkoroi and Merisho (as we usually call them) are a growing community. We get new people every now and then. Both places lie within the suburbs of Nairobi city and what initially seemed to be a scarcely populated area is now becoming a densely populated zone. These people are divided into different denominations around. Just to give an example, around our parish church, we have eight other denominations; all protestants. It should be known that in Kenya, the Protestants are the majority. Catholics are only 28% of the whole population of around 35 million. We have many cases whereby families are internally divided in faith. Some members go the Catholic Church while others go to the Protestants. Nevertheless, we do not have problems with this. There is respect in the believe of each person.

To be continued….
